MY JOURNEY WITH TEA
Let's rewind almost a year back. I was knee-deep in a year-long meditation teacher training, just trying to wrap my head around the vast amount of material thrown my way. Life outside the training wasn't any less chaotic; it felt like everything was shifting, including my own internal landscape. So many changes, I din’t even have words for at the time. Amidst this whirlwind, I experienced the dismantling and deconstructing aspect of meditation firsthand.
I knew I needed to hit pause. Stepping back from the intensity of the meditation practices was tough, but necessary for my sanity.
Then, Module 1 ended with a tea ceremony. It was simple yet so profound. In that moment, as I sat in stillness, cradling a warm cup of living tea in my hands, I felt a profound sense of peace wash over me. It was as if the chaotic noise of the world faded into the background, leaving only a serene stillness in its wake. It was like finding an oasis in the middle of a desert.
And so, my love affair with tea began.
I made it a daily ritual, even waking up at the crack of dawn to sit with my tea in blissful silence, before the world stirred. This was a big deal for me—I'm not exactly a morning person. I took my tea ceremonies everywhere: into nature, by the lake, even to a friend's wedding in Mallorca.
This is where one particularly memorable tea ceremony took place. As the sun began to rise over the picturesque finca, casting a golden glow over the landscape, I found myself sitting in silence with a cup of tea, surrounded by the tranquility of the early morning hours.
In that moment, as the world slowly awakened around me, I felt a deep sense of peace and connection with the natural beauty that surrounded us. The gentle rustle of leaves, the distant sound of birdsong—it was as if nature itself was joining in the celebration of love.
As I took a sip of tea, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the love and joy that filled the air. Each sip became a celebration of life and love, reflected in the golden hues of my tea cup. It was a moment of pure bliss, a reminder of the beauty and magic that infuses every aspect of existence.
Tea became more than just a beverage; it became my anchor. It brought me back to my meditation practice and, most importantly, back to myself.
In the realm of Cha Dao, the Way of Tea, I found a treasure trove of wisdom. Cha Dao is not just about brewing and drinking tea; it's a philosophy, a way of life. It teaches us to cultivate mindfulness, simplicity, and reverence for nature. Each aspect of the tea ceremony—from preparing the tea leaves to savoring each sip—is imbued with intention and mindfulness. Through Cha Dao, I learned to approach life with a sense of grace and gratitude, finding beauty in the ordinary and cultivating a deeper connection with myself and the world around me.
Each sip became a meditation, a dance with the present moment. And the benefits? They were endless. From heightened mindfulness to a deeper sense of connection with the world around me, tea became my ally in navigating life's ups and downs.
